July Fourth and your Pet’s well-being.
Loud, crowded fireworks displays can be fun for us humans, but they are no fun for pets so please resist the urge to take them to Independence Day festivities. Instead, keep your little one safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area of your home.
More pets are lost on the 4th of July than any other day of the year!
Here are some simple ideas to keep your pet safe (and at home!) on Independence Day.
- Make sure your cat or dog is wearing a current ID tag at all times.
- Keep your pet indoors while the fireworks are going off.
- If you are out with a dog, a secure leash is a must.
- Don’t leave your pet unattended, even in a secure yard, while the fireworks are happening.
- Keep a tab on your pet so you KNOW they are ok.
- If your special friend is timid or jumpy by nature, exercise extra precaution.
- Unless you are 100% sure your pet doesn't react to explosions, assume nothing.
- Take some current photo’s of your pet and have them on hand just in case.
- Playing music or the tv can help drown out the fireworks.
- Playing games or exercising can help distract your pet during a fireworks show.
- Don’t leave alcoholic drinks unattended where your pet can reach them.
- Never use fireworks around your pets!
- Lighter fluids and matches are harmful to pets...
- Citronella and insect control products harm pets too!
- Please share this list with your Pet-Owner and Pet-Lover friends.
-Thanks!
